Big Bear Burros
Until recently, burros roamed freely throughout Bear Valley.
Our home was a favorite hangout for the burros since we had fresh water
and leftover horse feed.
Many nights they woke us up with their braying and carrying on.
Numerous babies were born here.
The burros were tame enough to be fed by hand, which our children did
often.
Note the teeth marks in the front patio swing and the chewing marks on
the siding.
The Forest Service rounded them up and offered them for adoption a couple
of years back. Too many burros were being hit by cars or the babies killed
by coyotes.
Look out back by the feed shed - that's a burro skull!
